(TheRedWire.com) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), during an appearance on the “Pod Save America” podcast on Thursday, revealed that she would be supporting President Biden’s reelection bid. Biden is currently facing two challengers in the party’s primary.
Ocasio-Cortez, who is known as one of the most prominent progressives on Capitol Hill stated that given the current primary field, she would back Biden. She added that in the first three years of his administration, he had performed well in office especially when considering possible limitations he might have faced. She added that with any presidency there are always “ebbs and flows.”
The President is currently polling ahead of the two longshot candidates, which include Marianne Williamson,an author, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist. The Democratic National Committee has also announced that they have no intentions of holding primary debates for the primary race.
During the podcast, Ocasio-Cortez pointed out that there are certain areas in which Biden has done well to progress the Democrat’s agenda, including through the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act. She added that there were other areas in which the administration could have done better, like immigration.
Many other high-profile progressives, such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the Congressional Progressive Caucus Chairwoman, have already endorsed Biden’s presidential campaign which was originally launched in April.
Prior to this week, Ocasio-Cortez had stated that she would “unequivocally” support whoever was chosen as the Democrat’s nominee, but had not supported Biden explicitly prior to this recent statement.
