Pelosi JAIL Announcement – It’s About Time!
(TheRedWire.com) – Driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs or alcohol is a serious offense, even in the absence of injuries or property damage. In California, first-time charges can land violators in prison for up to six months. So why is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband, Paul, getting such a sweet deal?
Fox News reported that police arrested Paul Pelosi on suspicion of DUI on May 28, after his Porsche slammed into another car. Despite the damage, the multimillionaire was “cite released,” or allowed to leave jail without first paying bail. He pleaded “not guilty” to driving with a blood alcohol level of .08% or higher, causing injury, and DUI causing injury. The two charges carried a minimum of five days in jail and five years of probation.

The Speaker’s husband changed his plea to “guilty” on August 23 in a deal that will keep him from returning behind bars. Dropping one charge, Judge Joseph Solga sentenced the lawmaker’s husband to five days behind bars, noting two days already served and two days credited for good conduct. Mr. Pelosi will serve his final day on an eight-hour work detail instead of jail time. In addition to three years of probation, the defendant must pay monetary restitution, attend a three-month drunk driving program, and agree to install a breathalyzer-type device in his car’s ignition system.
Are these punishments enough, or did Paul Pelosi get off with a slap on the wrist?
