(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday, President Biden made a surprise visit to the EMILY’s List gala in Washington, D.C., an event that honored former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Biden, who spoke during the event, noted that Pelosi was a strong defender of women’s rights and would be remembered as “one of the most consequential speakers in American history.” EMILY’s List aims to support female candidates who are pro-abortion, with their 2023 national gala specifically organized to honor Pelosi.

In his roughly six-minute long speech, Biden proceeded to speak about some of Pelosi’s highest achievements, including passing the Affordable Care Act and the American Rescue Plan and her response to the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021. He added that she has always been a defender of women’s rights before calling her to join him on stage.

Biden’s remarks were not exclusively focused on Pelosi, as he took advantage of the occasion and praised Vice President Kamala Harris for her work on abortion rights. Harris was also present at the gala on Tuesday and gave her own remarks prior to Biden’s arrival.

Biden’s trip to the event was unexpected, as the White House had earlier that day indicated that there would not be any additional public events.

EMILY’s List also announced during the event that ahead of the 2024 election they would be targeting 23 House Republicans because of their stance on abortion.

In her remarks, Pelosi stated that it was possible for the Democrats to win back the House. She further argued that they would also increase their majority in the Senate as well as reelect President Biden.
