Pelosi Calls for More Spending After Disappointing Jobs Numbers

(TheRedWire.com) – Leading economists had projected the addition of one million jobs to the US economy during April. The jobs report for last month, which became available on Friday, shows this prediction was wildly inaccurate, as the economy only created around 266,000 new jobs.

Because demand for labor is running high, some commentators have explored the possibility that workers chose to stay out of jobs because of the enhanced unemployment benefits currently offered. However, this doesn’t appear to be a view House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) shares.

On Friday, May 7, Pelosi released a statement in which she stated that the way to create more jobs for America was to “pass President Biden’s American Jobs and Families Plans.” These massive spending proposals, she claimed, would be an investment “in our nation, our workers and our families.”

Pelosi’s statement also contained a promise that Congressional Democrats “hope to work in a bipartisan spirit” toward a healthier economy. Coming from the person who masterminded both Donald Trump’s impeachments for purely political reasons, this is somewhat difficult to believe.
