Pelosi Says Biden Not Impeding Party in Interview
(TheRedWire.com) – Ahead of the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 8, many Democrats expressed concerns that President Joe Biden’s policies were hurting Democrats’ chances to retain control of the House and Senate. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wasn’t among them. In an interview with PBS host Betsy Woodruff that aired before polls closed, the veteran reporter asked Pelosi whether the president was a drag on Democratic candidates. The Speaker responded, “no, no, not at all.”
Pelosi told Woodruff that Biden didn’t receive the admiration or respect he deserved. She stated he achieved a lot, including lower prescription drug prices, protecting entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare, and creating 10 million jobs since the pandemic ended. When asked how she felt about White House statements on Democratic policy accomplishments, Pelosi said she didn’t have any complaints about what they had done.

Still, some within the Democratic Party are uneasy with the shift among reliable coalitions now leaning towards Republicans. Hispanic voters have flocked to the GOP over high inflation, crime, and immigration in some states. Democratic strategist Colin Strother told Fox News Digital that voters were angry and wanted to send the Biden administration a message that it was time to move in a new direction.
Pelosi has served as the House Democrats’ leader for two decades. However, the Speaker recently signaled she might retire if Republicans flip the lower chamber or, at a minimum, leave her leadership role.
