(TheRedWire.com) – Former Vice President Mike Pence intends to counter the previous comments made by former President Donald Trump, praising Chinese leader Xi Jinping in a speech on Wednesday. Politico published a recent report that included supposed excerpts from Pence’s address.

On Wednesday, at the Nixon National Energy Conference, Pence is reportedly going to discuss China’s growing aggression in “repressing religious liberty, trampling human rights, committing trade abuses, threatening Taiwan, and launching aggressive military maneuvers in the South China Sea.” He will continue by noting that during the Biden administration, Chinese influence has also made its way to “American soil,” and while “China may not yet be an Evil Empire, but under President Xi, it certainly aspires to become one.”

In his recent interview with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson, Trump called Xi a “brilliant man” who is “top of the line.”

Pence is set to directly refer to these comments by stating that while some refer to Xi as “a ‘brilliant man,'” he believed him to be “an evil man, whose vision for the world is one in which freedom is constrained, but Beijing’s power is not.” He will continue by arguing that throughout history, there has never been a time when appeasement has worked, and that it is not going to work now. This is why America and its allies need to stop both China and Russia from trying “to trample the liberty of our friends.”
