(TheRedWire.com) – In a recent interview on “CBS Mornings” on Wednesday, Former Second Lady Karen Pence stated that former president Donald Trump was not using in his 2024 campaign the conservative principles that he had been running on in 2016.
During the interview, she stated that during Trump’s first term in the White House, she and her husband, former Vice President Mike Pence, had governed as conservatives. However, the former President has moved away from these values and foundations since then.
She added that this was obvious in many of the more recent statements made by Trump and that this change inspired her husband to join the 2024 presidential race and run for the White House as a “true conservative.” While Karren Pence did not make any specific references to Trump’s statements, her comments addressed the former President’s general position.
During the appearance, co-host Tony Dokoupil pointed out that CBS’ polling from that morning had shown that Republican primary voters were still planning on voting for Trump in the presidential primary election despite not seeing him as a true conservative.
In response, Karren Pence stated that if people listened more closely to what Trump was saying now, they would see the differences in his position five years ago. She further noted that her husband’s job was to show people this shift and push his message forward. Pence also planned on doing this in the second primary debate later that day.
