(TheRedWire.com) – Jen Psaki claimed that the recent support by the GOP towards defunding law enforcement shows that they have “come full circle” after repeatedly opposing this issue before.
MSNBC host and former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, has stated that the “defund the police” movement has now turned Republicans, with the GOP being the party mostly pushing for law enforcement to be weakened. Psaki specifically stated that following “all their outrage and fear-mongering” it turns out that the Republicans are the ones pushing for law enforcement to be defunded.
These claims came after Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., recently called for the FBI, the Department of Justice, and other law enforcement agencies to be defunded after Trump’s indictment. Critics of these agencies have argued that in the past few years, they have become increasingly politicized.
During a speech at CPAC in March, Gaetz had argued that either they would need to “get this government back on our side or we defund, get rid of, abolish the FBI, CDC, ATF, DoJ, every last one of them.”
Psaki however supported the government stating that the Justice Department helped ensure the nation’s safety. She added that this was literally their “mission statement” and that their duty was not just “to file abstract legal briefs.”
Former President Donald Trump has also called for the FBI and the Department of Justice to be defunded in one of his recent posts on Truth Social.
