(TheRedWire.com) – The prospects for Democrats maintaining control of Congress after the 2022 midterm elections appear daunting. According to a FiveThirtyEight tabulation of polls, as of December 1, 42.7% of voters preferred Republicans compared to 42% who favored Democrats. It comes at a time when President Joe Biden’s poll numbers continue to drop faster than a rock. As primary races prepare to heat up later this winter, 18 House Democrats chose not to seek re-election. Among them is Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D-NY).

Suozzi could face a tough re-election bid. Democrats in his Long Island district recently suffered surprising losses to Republicans. Instead of facing a crushing defeat or participation in the minority in the US House of Representatives, Suozzi announced on Monday, December 1, he’s running as a candidate for New York governor.
The list of candidates for the Democratic primary for New York governor is growing, and the vast majority consider themselves Progressives. Suozzi says he’s a Moderate who wants to find the answers to the Empire State’s problems. Unlike his rivals, Suozzi says he wants to cut property and income taxes. He’s also not a supporter of defunding the police. He’s proposing more police officers and housing assistance for mentally ill or homeless individuals. Additionally, the gubernatorial candidate says the state needs to cut regulations to attract potential residents and businesses.
