(TheRedWire.com) – The New York Times has reported an increase in the number of Chinese migrants who have been crossing the U.S. border illegally. In the 2023 fiscal year, there have been over 24,000 encounters with Chinese citizens. This marks a large increase when considering that in the previous decade, there had been less than 15,000 Chinese migrants caught attempting to cross the U.S. border over that entire period.

Chinese elementary and middle school English Teacher Mark Xu stated that he believes the biggest reason for this way of immigration is political. The 35-year-old man made the statement while waiting in Necoclí, Colombia, to board a boat. As he noted, the situation in China had become very stifling.

U.S. officials have been speaking up regarding this increase for months.

In a letter sent to Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, on September 20, a group of five Republicans led by Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., had spoken about their concerns over the 18,000 Chinese nationals who had crossed into the U.S. illegally through the southern border. As they pointed out, some of them had ties to the Chinese Communist Party’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).”

They further pointed out that in July, they had reached a new record for the number of nationwide encounters with Chinese nationals, which had reached over 6,100. The reports also showed that 94.8 of the Chinese nationals crossing into the country illegally were single adults, which could be perceived as a significant threat to the country’s national security.
