Ron DeSantis Is Building a War Chest To Take on Donald Trump

(TheRedWire.com) – Is there a heavyweight political battle about to ensue in the GOP? The 2022 midterm election dust has just settled, and ahead of Christmas, some are already looking forward to the 2024 presidential election. Some openly wonder whether popular conservative Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) will take on former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination. If the governor seeks the White House, he’s building a war chest to take challenge former President Donald Trump.

During the 2022 election cycle, the Republican Governor’s Association (RGA) helped the Floridian build a massive war chest by donating a whopping $21 million to the Friends of Ron DeSantis PAC. The PAC raised $160 million total, with the RGA giving the largest amount at $20,950,000 from April 2021 to November 2022. In addition, the donor class continues to contribute to the campaign ahead of the 2024 primary season.

Still, many questions why key players made such heavy political donations to a governor who was safe in 2022. Even Democrats gave up. The Democratic Governor’s Association only spent $52,000 in the Sunshine State to help gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist. Some political pundits believe DeSantis could use the funds to generate a primary run against Trump in 2024. Some in the Republican establishment have openly touted DeSantis.

Regardless, according to a November 23 Politico/Morning Consult poll, Trump currently holds the lead over the governor. The former president came in at 45% to DeSantis’ 30%. Still, it’s early, and anything can happen over the next two years.
