Ronny Jackson to McCarthy: Yield to Conservatives or Lose Speakership

Lawmakers Pass Emergency Vote To Avoid Government Shutdown

(TheRedWire.com) – Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, stated during an appearance on the “War Room” podcast with host Steve Bannon that Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., would need to follow the demands of the right-wing faction of his party if he does not want to lose the gavel. He added that significantly ahead of the possible Congress shutdown over the spending priorities of the government, he would need to listen to his conservative colleagues, or he would need to depend on the Democrats to “pass this.”

He added that this is something that he could do, especially considering this is what he had done with the debt ceiling. As he pointed out, there were more Democrats than Republicans who supported the debt limit deal.

However, Jackson has warned that if that occurs again, it will have a “detrimental” effect on the House leadership, especially If they dismiss the concerns expressed by many House Republicans, including himself and those in the Freedom Caucus. He argued that many of the demands made by people on the right were reasonable, so it would be an issue if McCarthy did not listen to them. It could potentially also lead to McCarthy losing his position as Speaker.

If the situation unfolds in the way that Jackson has predicted, then it will be “inevitable” that someone within the party will ask for McCarthy’s removal. If they do so, a vote for a new Speaker would be immediately triggered.
