(TheRedWire.com) – Senate Republicans have argued that former president Donald Trump has been working to consolidate his position as the frontrunner in the 2024 GOP primary and is more likely to be the party’s nominee in the 2024 presidential election despite his legal woes.

On March 30, Trump was indicted in connection to an investigation led by District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D). Still, despite the criminal charges he is facing, he has managed to close to double his lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who is currently in second place according to all polls dealing with the 2024 GOP primary.

In the past month or so, former President Trump has also managed to get many Congress members to endorse him, including a key endorsement from National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Steve Daines (R-Mont.).

Republican senators and GOP strategists say Daines’ endorsement is a sign that Trump is viewed as the favorite to win the party’s presidential nomination in 2024.

One Republican senator who spoke to the Hill anonymously, claimed that Trump winning the nomination was “inevitable. They further added that it would be shocking if Trump did not win the nomination and that based on the current poll numbers, and the support he has received through endorsements, it is clear that he is going to become the nominee.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who has also endorsed Trump in his presidential bid, has argued that Trump is solidifying the support he has within the GOP. He added that his growth is also evident in his recent poll numbers for those who believe in the polling numbers.
