(TheRedWire.com) – Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’s brother-in-law, Jimmie Gardner, was arrested in Florida, according to a press release, and is facing charges of lewd or lascivious touching of a minor, battery, and human trafficking.
The Office of the State Attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit noted in the release that Gardner, who had been working as a “youth motivational speaker,” was in jail with no bond and would be making his first court appearance in Tampa on Saturday. The Tampa police first indicted the man on Friday morning.
According to the police, the incident that led to his arrest had occurred on Friday morning when the 57-year-old man was caught at the Renaissance Hotel at International Plaza engaging in acts with a 16-year-old girl. During the altercation, the man assaulted her.
Gardner alleged that he had first met the victim at 1:43 a.m. and had called for her to join him in his hotel room. He then proceeded to offer her money in exchange for inappropriate acts.
According to the police, the victim had initially agreed but later changed her mind and told him that she did not want to proceed. This resulted in Gardner getting angry and telling her she needed to exit his hotel room. The two ended up getting into a verbal altercation, which turned physical after Gardner started choking the victim by placing his hands around her neck and blocking her breathing.
Following the dispute, Gardner left the hotel room, and the victim contacted 911.
