(TheRedWire.com) – Congressional Democrats are coming under pressure to remove Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee. Last week it emerged that Swalwell had been associated with an alleged Chinese spy for years – but the Democrats put him on a vital national security committee anyway.
Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA) said on Monday, December 14, that despite a “deafening” silence on the scandal from Democrats, Swalwell needs to be removed from the Intelligence Committee.
Scalise also wants to know if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was aware of Swalwell’s involvement with the suspected spy when she put him on the committee in 2015, in his second term. Meanwhile, Pelosi’s office is claiming she has “full confidence” in Swalwell.
The FBI regularly briefs members about foreign espionage directed at Congress. @EricSwalwell should’ve known better…

Swalwell met Christine Fang, an alleged agent for China’s Ministry of State Security, while he was a city councilor in Dublin, CA, between 2010 and 2012. This is a classic intelligence technique – to approach promising junior politicians and compromise them to blackmail them if they’re elected to higher offices.
Fang is known to have had sexual relationships with at least two US mayors and other officials. She later helped Swalwell with fundraising for his 2014 election campaign and placed an intern in his office. However, she fled the country when the FBI approached Swalwell about her.
According to Swalwell, he was “shocked” to learn that a Chinese national who ingratiated herself with US politicians might be a spy.
