( – On Saturday night, November 6, Log Cabin Republicans hosted the 2021 Spirit of Lincoln Gala at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. The former president and First Lady Melania Trump spoke to the crowd of nearly 700 people. President Trump said more people would have attended the event were it not for the economic strain inflicted on Americans due to President Joe Biden’s failed policies.

As the Trumps sat listening intently to Rep. Chris Stewart’s (R-UT) speech, attendees broke out a “Let’s Go Brandon!” chant, a phrase recently adopted by Biden critics to replace an expletive used in conjunction with his name. Throughout his presidency, the LGBTQ community criticized Trump as anti-LGBTQ. Yet, the Log Cabin Republicans, a prominent group of LGBTQ conservative Republicans, said the 45th president was an ally of gay rights.

The group honored Mrs. Trump with the Spirit of Lincoln Award, which celebrates a person’s commitment to enhancing personal freedoms, encouraging personal responsibility, and ensuring equality for all Americans. In addition to Mrs. Trump’s award, the Log Cabin Republicans gave former Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell the Game Changer Award for going above and beyond the call of duty in championing LGBTQ conservative causes.

The group also gave Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel the Majority Maker Award for being a close ally of the Log Cabin Republicans while fighting to elect conservatives to public office. Lastly, the group named Rep. Chris Steward (R-UT) as the Congressional Champion Award recipient for proving himself a reliable leader on issues important to the conservative LGBTQ community.
