Supreme Court Lawyers Say They Oppose Stacking Supreme Court

(TheRedWire.com) – A Republican-led Senate confirmed Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett just weeks before the 2020 general election. Her confirmation handed the High Court a 6 to 3 Republican-confirmed majority. That sent the Left into a tizzy amid demands that Democrats “pack the court” and install four Liberal judges to outstrip the current Conservative majority. In April, President Joe Biden created a Commission on the Supreme Court to study the matter.

On Tuesday, July 20, the commission heard from lawyers who regularly present cases before the SCOTUS. They didn’t offer a favorable response to packing the court and suggested the bench is operating precisely as the Constitution intended. The Supreme Court Practitioners’ Committee co-chair, Maureen Mahoney, said a larger tribunal would be less productive, and deliberations would be more challenging. She added that the court’s opinions could create less clarity and increased confusion.

Curt Levey is the president of the Committee for Justice. He argued allegations that a SCOTUS Conservative majority only delivers wins for Conservative causes are false. But, he also countered that 60 years of Liberal Benches have pushed the legal system in a Progressive direction.
