(TheRedWire.com) – Texas Senator Ted Cruz blasted the Biden administration for providing funds to “both sides” of the Russia-Ukraine war.

During an interview on the Ben Ferguson show, Cruz stated while the Biden administration is sending billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine, some of it has gone towards weapons being used in the war.

The State Department earlier this month said the United States would be providing $3.75 billion in military assistance to Ukraine. As part of the new assistance, they will also be sending 50 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles. Since February when the Russian invasion of Ukraine was initiated, the U.S. has provided around $27.2 billion in funding to assist in the war.

Cruz argued that a lot of that funding has been given to the government, in areas where corruption is a serious problem. He added that the lifting of sanctions on Iran has led to billions of dollars going to Iran, even though Iran has been sending drones to assist Russia in the war.

The lifted sanctions were a part of the efforts to discuss with Iran the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JPCOA), a nuclear deal that President Donald Trump had previously stopped in 2018. As part of the deal, Iran would stop developing its nuclear program in order for the sanctions placed by the U.S. to be lifted.

Cruz said with Biden’s decision, Iran is able to sell a million barrels of oil per day, allowing dollars to flow back into the country.
