(TheRedWire.com) – On Thursday, October 28, the Wall Street Journal reported the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) were collaborating on a settlement that could pay up to $450,000 for illegal immigrant minors separated from the parents in 2019, and an additional $450,000 for parents. On Wednesday, November 3, a reporter asked President Biden if the payouts would incentivize more illegal immigration. The president stated the report was garbage and emphatically said the payments weren’t going to happen. That was news to ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero, who fired back at the president.
Biden may not have been fully briefed about the actions of his own DOJ as it carefully considered the crimes committed against thousands of families. But if he follows through on what he said, the president is abandoning a campaign promise to do justice for separated families. https://t.co/6DWTTiXS9k

Romero suggested the DOJ might not have briefed the president about the negotiations between his Justice Department and the ACLU, which is representing the illegal immigrants in the negotiations with government attorneys. Romero stated the president promised separated families justice on the campaign trail and said if Biden didn’t follow through, thousands of illegal immigrants would somehow be at risk. The ACLU leader said Biden clearly called Trump’s actions criminal regarding family separations in a 2020 presidential debate with Trump. If Biden truly believes that, Romero added, the president must rectify the Trump administration’s alleged acts of lawlessness.
Although the president asserted the administration won’t make payments, the ACLU director called on Biden to redress the alleged wrongs committed against immigrants who entered the country illegally.
