Beto O’Rourke’s Suffers Third Devastating Loss in a Row

(TheRedWire.com) – Some in the media have hailed former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rouke as the darling of the Democratic Party. Yet, he’s failed to produce in deep-red Texas for Democrats in three consecutive races. He lost a Senate head-to-head matchup with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in 2018, followed by the 2020 presidential primary. On Tuesday, November 8, he lost by a whopping 11 points to incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX).

O’Rourke has been a strong fundraiser and campaign organizer. He raised $77 million during his gubernatorial campaign and spent $72 million. Over a four-month period, the Democrat brought in $28 million to shatter a fundraising record. Still, he can’t seem to get over the top.

GOP consultant Matt Mackowiak said O’Rourke may not have learned much from three consecutive devastating defeats. He noted that the Democratic candidate knows how to organize, raise money, and energize progressives. Beyond that, he can’t connect with the voters who decide election winners.

In a concession speech on Tuesday night, O’Rourke stated he wasn’t sure what his future political role would be. Still, he said he was in the “fight for life.” While acknowledging an uncertain future, he thanked those who supported him. Some political experts believe he isn’t going to drop out of politics despite the mounting failures.
