Top House Republican Won’t Rule Out Impeachment

(TheRedWire.com) – The fallout from the botched Afghanistan withdrawal is just beginning. So is the outrage on Capitol Hill. Republicans are demanding answers, and many are already calling for accountability. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) and a dozen other Republicans introduced a resolution to censure President Biden. Others are calling on Biden to resign immediately, and a growing chorus is clamoring for impeachment. Even some Democrats are expressing deep concerns about Biden’s failed actions.

It appears House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is leaning toward the latter. On Sunday morning, the Republican leader said he isn’t ruling out impeachment over the president’s massive Afghanistan failure. He unambiguously stated Congress should take its responsibility seriously and hold the president and his officials accountable for unilaterally creating the crisis.

The minority leader added that the administration didn’t communicate its intentions or plans with Congress before rushing into the withdrawal. As the GOP collects information, McCarthy warned that a draft of articles of impeachment is possible. According to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Biden’s weakness emboldened terrorists. He added the Taliban could take US hostages in the war-torn country, and ISIS could attempt terrorist attacks inside the United States.

As America learns more about the decision-making process inside the White House, anything could happen on Capitol Hill.
