Matt Gaetz Calls for Bombing Cartel to Fix Fentanyl Problem on His Twitter Page
(TheRedWire.com) – In April, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) warned fentanyl was killing Americans at an alarming rate. In 2021, the agency said over 105,000 people died from drug overdoses, with 66% coming from synthetic drugs like fentanyl. On Twitter, Rep. Mat Gaetz (R-FL) insinuated he’d had enough.
On Wednesday, September 21, the Florida congressman said people don’t set out to acquire the drug to have fun. He argued that people don’t overdose on the drug. Instead, Gaetz said it poisons them. Cartoonist Scott Adams, who created the “Dilbert” comic strip, disagreed in a tweet. Regardless, Gaetz called on the federal government to bomb one of the two cartels responsible for its manufacture and distribution.
Correction: Addicts do score Fentanyl directly for a high. But they tend to be “pros” who have a better record handling it. The “didn’t know” crowd is at high risk.

During a House Judiciary Committee hearing, the congressman stated the US needed to close the southern border and get tough on the Sinaloa Cartel. The US government says it is one of two cartels primarily to blame for the fentanyl crisis in the country.
Gaetz added that the US military should bomb Sinaloa, Mexico, where the drug cartel calls home. He said the federal government is allowing the border to degrade, and too many groups believe they will benefit if the government allows millions of illegal immigrants into the country. Gaetz stated fentanyl poisoning resulted in broken lives and too many funerals.
Regardless of Gaetz’s rhetoric, several GOP lawmakers back legislative proposals that would make death by fentanyl a felony murder charge.
