(TheRedWire.com) – The lead attorney in former President Donald Trump’s legal cases in Florida and Manhattan argued that all of the criminal charges against Trump needed to be dismissed. This statement came after a Florida federal judge had found that the prosecutors had acted incorrectly in appointing the special counsel. The most recent ruling came after the Supreme Court’s ruling which granted immunity from criminal prosecution to the core presidential powers.
On Tuesday, during a radio interview, attorney Todd Blanche had told Hugh Hewitt that Trump’s hush money conviction needed to be thrown out as prosecutors had used evidence that had been in violation of what the Supreme Court ruling defined as presidential immunity last month. Blanche argued that the Supreme Court had clearly stated in its ruling that any U.S. president, not just former President Trump, should be given immunity when it comes to the actions they took during their time in office. He pointed out that during the case there had been key testimonies provided and that the president has absolute immunity and should not have to answer to others, especially not a Manhattan jury.
He continued by noting that in their eyes this conviction should not have occurred in the first place and that the case should be dismissed.
In May, Trump had been found by a Manhattan jury to be guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business documents in connection to an illegal coverup to a hush money payment he had made ahead of the 2016 presidential election in order to hide his affair. Trump’s legal team which is being led by Blanche has already filed an appeal to the conviction.
