(TheRedWire.com) – Former President Trump is asking for the journalists responsible for the publication of the leaked draft opinion that showed that the Supreme Court was planning on overturning Roe v. Wade to be jailed. In May of last year, a Politico report by Josh Gerstein and Alexander Ward discussed a draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito which sought to overturn the landmark case that provided federal protection for abortion rights.
On Thursday, the court in a report noted that following an internal investigation they were unable to determine who had leaked the draft opinion.
Former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social website in order to discuss the case further. As Trump wrote they are never going to find who leaked the documents unless they reach out to the reporters and threaten them that if they don’t reveal who it was they would end up in jail. Trump then said that outside of the two journalists, the editor and publisher should also be added to the list of people to be questioned.
Following Politico’s report there was public outrage and protests by people who wanted abortion rights to be protected. Many congressional Republicans and conservative media figures were also outraged that there was a leak in such a court sensitive document before the Supreme Court had managed to make its decision.
The high court’s vote in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June of 2022.
