(TheRedWire.com) – Last week, former President Donald Trump pushed even further his calls to have drug dealers face the death penalty.
During a campaign rally in New Hampshire, Trump argued that President Xi had control of around 1.4 billion people and that they did not have any “drug problems.” He added that the reason they did not have any issues was because drug dealers faced the death penalty.
Trump argued that people wanted to solve the drug problem and that the way of doing that was through the introduction of a “meaningful death penalty” against those who were caught dealing drugs. This is not the first time that Trump has pushed that drug dealers should face the death penalty.
In June, Trump had pushed for drug dealers to receive the death penalty during an interview on Fox News. However, if the death penalty was given to drug dealers, Alice Johnson, one of the women that Trump commuted the sentence in 2018, would have also faced the death penalty.
Johnson had faced charges for money laundering and cocaine distribution and in 1996 she was charged and sentenced to serve life in prison. In 2020 Trump featured her in his presidential campaign’s Super Bowl advertisement.
This was also pointed out to Trump by Fox News anchor Bret Baier. However, Trump argued that everything would depend on the severity of the crime. He further claimed that had the death penalty charge been in place then she would not have committed the crime.
