(TheRedWire.com) – Republicans have criticized the plea deal agreement between Hunter Biden and the Department of Justice (DOJ), stating that it is further proof of the double standard in the justice system. Many have pointed out the differences between the “sweetheart deal” given to Biden and how the case against former President Donald Trump was handled.

However, the U.S. attorney handling Biden’s case was appointed by Trump himself. On Tuesday, it was announced that the Department of Justice charged Hunter Biden with two counts of failing to pay his federal income tax. He is also arrested separately for the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Biden’s legal team and the federal prosecutors have reached a plea deal that would allow him to plead guilty to the two tax misdemeanors. According to the reports, the firearm case will likely be dismissed if certain conditions are met.

Many in the Republican party have criticized how Hunter Biden’s case has been handled, especially compared to the 37 charges brought against former President Donald Trump concerning the alleged mishandling of classified documents after he left the White House in 2021. Trump pleaded not guilty to all accounts.

Republicans have argued that the Biden administration has weaponized the Department of Justice and that Trump was being targeted.

In his social media post, Trump claimed that many people were “going wild” over Hunter Biden’s Scam with the DOJ!”

Still, despite Trump’s claims, U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who offered the plea deal, was appointed by Trump. President Joe Biden avoided having Weiss removed not to be criticized for interfering with the case against his son when he took office.
