(TheRedWire.com) – On Monday, former President Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social, to welcome Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) to the presidential race. Trump used this message as a way of not only welcoming Scott but also taking a shot at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) who is considered to be Trump’s biggest challenger in this race.

After wishing the senator good luck in the Republican primary he proceeded to state that the race was starting to become crowded, but that Scott was a big upgrade to “Ron DeSanctimonious” who Trump called “totally unelectable.” He further noted that he and Scott had collaborated when creating the opportunity zones, an investment incentive that included the 2017 tax cut legislation. The legislation had been passed by Republicans and was signed by Trump.

On Monday, Scott officially launched his presidential campaign, making him the second person from South Carolina to join the race, and the first and only senator so far to have placed a bid. His speech was mainly focused on his background which in his view is the embodiment of the American dream.

Trump did not mention anything negative about Scott yet, and instead has continued to focus on DeSantis who is considered a much bigger challenger. While DeSantis has not yet announced his candidacy, he is widely expected to be preparing to announce it this week. The Florida governor is currently second in most national polls running right behind Trump, and he has managed to lead in certain state polls.
