(TheRedWire.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is facing pressure to fight harder against former President Donald Trump’s attacks following his recent political setback and loss in support.

DeSantis, who is widely expected to launch a presidential bid in 2024, has been facing a number of attacks from Trump and his allies. While he has over time made some covert attempts at fighting back against Trump’s attacks, for the most part, the fight with Trump has been uneven.

Some of DeSantis’ allies are now trying a more direct approach to handling the former President, as it is likely that the constant attacks have been affecting the Florida governor’s standing.

Dan Eberhart, a Republican donor backing DeSantis, has stated that DeSantis and his team would “tie themselves into knots” if they tried to address every single one of Trump’s attacks. He added that DeSantis is surrounded by experts who have a strategy that they are executing. Still, there is a need for DeSantis to “counterpunch” even if that is not visible in DeSantis’ current strategy.

Eberhart also noted that Trump’s team is on the offensive because they are actually concerned about the possibility of the governor threatening Trump’s position and hopes of reclaiming the White House in 2024. This is why Trump’s team is trying so hard to get DeSantis out of the presidential race. He further claimed that so far these attempts were working and many of DeSantis’ supporters appeared to be more nervous because of all of the negative press in the last month. This is why DeSantis needs to recover swiftly and fight back or he is not going to be able to make a comeback.
