(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday morning, former President Trump revealed through a social media post on Truth Social that the Department of Justice had sent him a letter telling him that he was a target of the Jan. 6, 2021 probe, which was examining Trump’s attempts to remain in the White House and overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Trump claimed that he had received the letter on Sunday night, which is not common practice. As he pointed out, the letter noted that he was a target of the investigation and was requested to appear before the Grand Jury within four days. Trump claimed that the letter likely meant he would be indicted and arrested.

The Department of Justice’s investigation into Jan. 6 had always put Trump as one of the focus points. Attorney General Merrick Garland had also appointed special counsel Jack Smith to handle this case and the other case concerning Trump, which relates to his alleged mishandling of classified documents. In the appointment last year, Garland had written that Smith would be responsible for determining if anyone or any entity had attempted to interfere with the power transfer.

Target letters are usually a sign that an indictment against someone is coming soon as prosecutors have been able to gather substantial evidence.

Trump had attempted to remain in the White House by requesting the help of state officials, his supporters, and even the Department of Justice. Trump’s supporters had proceeded to storm the U.S. Capitol to block then-Vice President Mike Pence’s certification of the Presidential election results.
