(TheRedWire.com) – On Friday, during his speech in Philadelphia following Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan being stricken down, former President Donald Trump argued that Biden had been attempting “to buy votes.”
Trump called Biden “crooked” in his speech while talking to a crowd at the Moms for Liberty Joyful Warriors National Summit in Philadelphia. As he pointed out, Biden’s student loan plan would have forgiven up to $10,000 for federal loan borrowers and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. However, the Supreme Court found that Biden did not have the right to introduce his student loan forgiveness plan without Congressional approval.
Trump argued that had the student loan forgiveness plan gone through, it would have been “very unfair” to the millions of Americans who have paid off their debts through hard work. He then argued that Biden was corrupt and attempting to buy votes with this move.
The Supreme Court, in their majority opinion, stated that the HEROES Act did not authorize the President to forgive student loans, which was a massive hit for the Biden administration. Chief Justice John Roberts specifically wrote for the 6-3 majority that the plan included forgiving $430 billion of federal student loan balances and would completely erase the debt for 20 million borrowers. There would also be a massive decrease in the median owed from $29,400 to $13,600. Six GOP-led states sued the plan because the HEROES Act does not give the authorization for student loan cancellation, which the justices agreed with.
