(TheRedWire.com) – Former President Trump in a recent campaign event in Council Bluffs, Iowa slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis stating that he had fallen behind in the 2018 Florida GOP gubernatorial race as he was a “lousy candidate.” Trump added that it was his nomination that turned DeSantis into a “rocket ship” and allowed him to win the party’s nomination for the gubernatorial race.
As Trump pointed out he had originally hosted a number of rallies in support of DeSantis because DeSantis on his own would not have been able to win the Democratic Party’s candidate who was considered to be the “hottest guy” in the party at the time. He then proceeded to point out that Andrew Gillum had only ended up losing to DeSantis.
Still, DeSantis has really elevated his position in recent years, as he was able to secure his reelection with a 19-point lead in the previous gubernatorial race in November. This did not stop Trump from further attacking DeSantis, and claiming that the Florida governor is a “globalist sellout” with “no personality.” As he pointed out this is what is causing him to tank in the presidential primary polls as people know that he would destroy their states.
The former President also pointed out that DeSantis had been targeting ethanol, which is one of the key commodities produced in the state. He added that DeSantis wanted to block the “renewable fuel standard” and that this was one of his priorities when he was serving as a member of Congress.
