(TheRedWire.com) – Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen is scheduled to testify before a grand jury in Manhattan next week. New York investigators are getting closer to making a decision on whether or not to file an indictment against former President Donald Trump over the hush money that was paid to film star Stormy Daniels ahead of 2016 in exchange for her silence.

On Friday it was reported by the New York Times that Cohen is going to be testifying as part of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation. Cohen had revealed last week that he was expecting to be called in to testify “very soon.” He further disclosed that he had previously met with investigators more than a dozen times as part of this probe.

Cohen had previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges in 2018. One of the violations he was sentenced for included a campaign finance violation for paying $130,000 in campaign funds to Daniels. He had previously been sentenced to serve a few years in prison but he was released early at the start of the pandemic.

Cohen has maintained that he made the payment at the request of Trump. Trump has also admitted that he had reimbursed Cohen for the payment which was not related to the campaign.

If prosecutors decide to file an indictment against Trump, Cohen is going to act as a key witness, while Trump is going to attack his credibility as Cohen was charged with lying to Congress previously.
