(TheRedWire.com) – The Washington Post’s new report has revealed that Evan Corcoran, a lawyer for former President Donald Trump who had been the one to appear before a grand jury in late March in relation to the classified documents found in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate has now been rescued from the case.

Corcoran, who recused himself from that particular case, is still going to be representing Trump in his other legal cases. This includes the Department of Justice’s other investigation on Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack. In late March an appeals court had rejected the effort to block Corcoran from having to testify and provide access to documents to special counsel Jack Smith who has been tasked with overseeing the case of the classified documents.

Corcoran is considered to be relevant to the investigation because a statement he drafted claimed there were no other classified documents in Trump’s estate. However, that proved to be untrue as weeks later the FBI retrieved hundreds of documents from Mar-a-Lago.

Christina Bobb, another one of Trump’s attorneys, told investigators that Corcoran drafted and gave her the letter to sign last fall. Smith and his team of prosecutors are examining whether Trump or anyone else involved in the case might have been trying to obstruct the return of the classified documents to the National Archives.
