(TheRedWire.com) – Former President Donald Trump’s attorney Alina Habba has claimed that the New York criminal trial jury needed to have been sequestered during the Memorial Day weekend which is taking place before the closing arguments in the hush money trial in order to avoid any outside influence.
On Sunday during an interview on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” Habba claimed that the jurors needed to be sequestered especially as this case is “completely unprecedented” in the United States. He added that the jurors could now spend the holiday with their families and friends who are likely to have opinions or be watching the news regarding the trial. He added that this was very concerning, especially if they are left-wing and watching CNN or MSNBC.
This week the 12 New York jurors will need to make a decision on if they want Trump to be convicted on the 34 criminal counts. In order for the case not to result in a mistrial all of them will need to reach the same decision.
Trump is facing 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to a hush money payment made on his behalf to adult film star Stormy Daniels by his former fixer and lawyer Michael Cohen ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Trump has repeatedly denied any affair with Daniels and has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
On Tuesday Trump’s defense team had opted to rest their case without calling for the former president to take the stand in the case.
