(TheRedWire.com) – House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan recently articulated that should Donald Trump reclaim the presidency, his primary focus would likely be on policy and national security, rather than initiating investigations into President Joe Biden and his family. During a discussion at an Axios event on Tuesday, Jordan was asked if a re-elected Trump would use the Department of Justice to pursue charges against the Bidens. He responded, “I don’t think that’s the plan.” Jordan clarified that Trump’s priorities would be more centered on “securing the border, ensuring that tax cuts are maintained, and reinstating a common-sense energy policy.”
Jordan was also questioned about his views on whether Biden or his family members might have committed crimes that have yet to be charged. To this, he replied cautiously, stating, “I don’t know that. I was never an advocate for moving forward on impeachment. However, I do think the allegations are compelling.”
The backdrop to these discussions is the recent violence at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt. During this attack, a 20-year-old gunman opened fire, resulting in Trump sustaining a gunshot wound to the ear, the death of one bystander, and injuries to two others. The assailant was subsequently neutralized by the Secret Service.
The day after this harrowing event, Trump suggested during an interview that the Biden administration might consider dropping the legal proceedings against him as a gesture of national unity. This speculation comes amidst ongoing DOJ prosecutions of Trump related to his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots and the controversies surrounding the 2020 presidential election results.
In the same interview, Trump described a recent conversation he had with Biden, which took place shortly after the assassination attempt. He characterized the call as “fine” and noted that Biden was “very nice” during their interaction. Trump also hinted that there were indications Biden might instruct the Department of Justice to cease its prosecution efforts against him, although, as of now, there has been no public confirmation or visible sign of such a move from Biden’s DOJ.
