(TheRedWire.com) – Recent polls have shown that former President Donald Trump has gained a significant lead over his potential challenger, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, in a hypothetical matchup in the 2024 GOP primary. However, while Trump is leading against DeSantis, this success does not appear to extend to hypothetical matches against President Joe Biden.

According to most polls, DeSantis is currently performing better against the President than Trump, although in some cases, those results fall within the margin of error.

On Friday, a new Wall Street Journal poll showed Trump winning 48 percent of a 12-person GOP field, with DeSantis taking second place with 24 percent. Trump also won in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup with DeSantis, 51 percent to 38 percent.

This is a trend that continues in other polls, including a recent Quinnipiac University poll from late March, where Trump is leading in a 15-person GOP field with 47 percent, while DeSantis comes in second place with 33 percent.

However, a poll from the GOP-aligned Echelon Insights in late March shows Biden leading against both men by 3 percentage points.

The National Wall Street Journal also showed that in a hypothetical matchup between Biden and Trump, 48 percent would choose Biden, and 45 percent would prefer Trump. However, in a matchup where DeSantis goes against Biden, DeSantis comes out on top with 48 percent, while Biden only has 45 percent of the respondents’ support.
