(TheRedWire.com) – On Wednesday, following Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) endorsement of former President Donald Trump, Trump released a statement thanking the Senate Republican leader and claiming that he was looking forward to their collaboration.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump thanked McConnell for the endorsement and stated that he was looking forward to the two of them working together in order to win the Senate majority and “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
McConnell’s endorsement of Trump’s bid comes after years of the two of them not speaking following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. This latest development comes after the former United Nations Ambassador ended up dropping out of the presidential race, leaving Trump as the sole major Republican opponent still in the race.
In the announcement, McConnell pointed out that it was obvious that Trump had earned the support of Republican voters and would become the nominee of the party in the presidential election. He added that it was unsurprising that Biden would become the nominee and that he would have his complete support.
McConnell also spoke about his previous collaboration with Trump during his first term in office pointing out that they had collaborated on tax reforms and judiciary reformations, including the Supreme Court.t He added that he was looking forward to not “playing defense” against bad policies anymore.
Following the Capitol attack, McConnell and Trump had a falling out as a result of Trump’s involvement in the attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential results and the events of Jan. 6.
