(TheRedWire.com) – Former United Kingdom Secret Intelligence Service head Sir Richard Dearlove stated during a Sunday interview with SkyNews that a possible second Trump administration could be a national threat to the U.S.

During the interview, Dearlove claimed that a Trump reelection was going to be “problematic” for the country as the former President had issues with NATO. Throughout his time in the White House, Trump had frequently attacked the alliance and had even been reported as saying that he would be withdrawing from the agreement. Trump has also often slammed other countries over not making sufficient contributions to NATO.

Dearlove was asked specifically what he believed the biggest threats to national security in the U.S. were to which he had argued it was China’s potential threat to the interests of the west and Taiwan, the war between Russia and Ukraine and finally the possible reelection of Donald Trump in 2024.

He argued that it was important to remember that he was not a politician and that the types of threats he was looking at were related to national security. He added that if Trump damages the Atlantic alliance it could be a big deal for the country.

He proceeded to say that when it comes to defense, all of their eggs were in one basket, NATO, and that if Trump was serious about withdrawing from the agreement it could upset the balance. As he pointed out, the U.S. is meant to act as a nuclear umbrella for Europe which is why he believes that the country is integral to the security and defense of the continent.
