(TheRedWire.com) – Traveling to the United States is dangerous, and in some instances deadly. Human smugglers often take advantage of migrants seeking a better life in the US. Some smugglers recruit illegal immigrants into the drug trade, and others into sex trafficking. Once the government releases illegal immigrants into the country, they find jobs to pay their massive debt off to smugglers, cashing in on the illegal activity.
While that’s common knowledge among those who follow the illegal immigration crisis, many know less about how the United Nations (UN), Mexico, and US taxpayers are helping the unlawful immigrant invasion into the country. That’s according to revelations by Todd Bensman at the Center for Immigration Studies. He saw firsthand how the US-supported UN provided taxpayer cash to illegal immigrants as they journeyed to the United States.
United Nations Using US Taxpayer Dollars to Aid Illegal Immigration
According to Bensman, the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) created a campaign handing out cash and debit cards to illegal immigrants traveling through South and Central America, and Mexico, to the United States. The reporter stated he learned $400 debit cards are distributed by the IOM every 15 days to parents, often supplementing cash in envelopes and movement assistance.
In addition, the IOM helped construct and expand 100 shelters along the migration route northward using US taxpayer dollars. The IOM Emergency Manual outlines the cash assistance program and says the program is offered unconditionally and can be used to help migrants pay for water, food, and clothing.
In the 2022 federal budget, the State Department gives $10 billion in humanitarian assistance to the UN. Bensman reported the IOM spent $60 million helping migrants traveling in massive caravans from Central America to the United States in 2019. Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) says it sounds like the UN is using US tax dollars to encourage illegal immigration.
How Did This Happen?
Bensman says the IOM gives the money to migrants at specific checkpoints along the migrant trail. Once in Mexico, migrants must obtain visa papers before heading to a UN building nearby to secure an appointment. Once the UN interviews the migrants, they begin issuing debit cards to sustain them during their journey through Mexico.
During President Trump’s time in office, the administration cut the flow of illegal immigration. The Trump administration sent most illegal immigrants home, but the erstwhile immigrants still owed money to smugglers. In 2021, President Biden reversed Trump’s policies and incentivized illegal immigration. The administration allowed nearly 1.5 million illegal and legal immigrants into the US.
The United Nations isn’t transparent with how it spends the money it receives from international governments. The US is its largest donor country. In addition, the State Department says little about its aid to various UN groups, including the IOM.
