(TheRedWire.com) – A new ABC News- Ipsos poll has found that most Americans believe that the handling of classified material by both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump has been inappropriate.
According to the poll, 77 percent of respondents thought Trump had inappropriately handled classified material, while 64 percent held the same opinion of Biden’s handling. The responders also seemed to change depending on partisan lines, with 96 percent of Democrats condemning Trump’s handling, while only 47 percent of Republicans held the same opinion. However, 83 percent of independents also believed that Trump’s behavior had been inappropriate.
Similarly, 89 percent of Republicans thought Biden had inappropriately handled classified material, while only 38 percent of Democrats thought the same. 66 percent of independents also thought that Biden had inappropriately handled classified documents.
Following the revelation that both Biden and Trump had mishandled classified documents there has been a lot of criticism directed at both men. Classified documents normally need to be stored at the National Archives.
Still, it is important to remember that the two cases are fundamentally different. President Biden’s lawyers first discovered classified documents in Biden’s private office in Washington, D.C., which led to a search of Biden’s Wilmington home, where additional documents were found. White House aides have maintained that the National Archives was immediately contacted after the first batch of classified documents was found.
In Trump’s case, the National Archives had requested the return of the documents which Trump had repeatedly denied. This led to the FBI raiding his Mar-a-Lago home in order to retrieve the documents. This is why Trump’s allegations also include obstruction of justice.
