What to Expect From a Virtual Groundhog's Day

(TheRedWire.com) – It seems 2020 is barely over, but we’re still tuning in to more virtual holidays. Thanks to COVID, it’s safest if we watch another holiday from some device. It must be nice to be a groundhog! At least he isn’t quarantined, or we might never know how long until winter’s over.

This year, Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, won’t see the usual crowd gather for Phil’s famous appearance. We wonder if that might depress him? The one day of the year he’s a major star, he’ll pop his head out to find no one there! Might this inadvertently cause him to look around in shock and confusion? Or maybe he’ll be excited! He finally gets to come out of his home to enjoy nature without interruption while everyone’s watching him on live internet.

Either way, Punxsutawney Phil will still be the star groundhog, although he speaks of a new “Phil” in this tweet.

Does he plan to retire? Time and Phil will tell — just like whether or not we’ll have an early spring. Phil has predicted longer winters over 100 times since 1887. Maybe, after the unprecedented year we’ve had, he’ll look forward to an early spring.
