(TheRedWire.com) – The White House needed to respond to several subpoenas sent by House Republicans claiming that the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden constituted “Congressional harassment” with political intent and was unconstitutional.
The president’s special counsel Richard Sauber, responded to the House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) in a letter where he stated that the subpoenas and requests during this investigation, which has been characterized as an impeachment inquiry “despite the fact that the House of Representatives has not authorized, were part of their attempts to misrepresent the facts and evidence that proved their claims wrong. He added that they have repeatedly changed the inquiry’s “rationale.”
The House Republican inquiry is largely focused on the business dealings of the President’s family, specifically those of Hunter Biden, the president’s son, and James Biden, who is Joe Biden’s brother. In the inquiry, the Republicans are looking to see whether Biden had assisted them with these deals and benefited from them during his time serving as the vice President.
Republicans are also investigating the tax crimes prosecution against Hunter Biden following the testimonies of IRS whistleblowers who revealed that the investigation had been delayed.
The House GOP has sent out a number of subpoenas in connection to those probes, some of which are addressed to James and Hunter Biden, as well as several officials of the Biden administration. The investigation was started earlier this year.
While ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) had launched what he referred to as an impeachment inquiry, there was no House vote for its authorization.
