(TheRedWire.com) – Over the last number of months, the partisan House January 6 Select Committee has been interviewing former Trump White House officials, issuing subpoenas and working to make a case that former President Donald Trump was responsible for inciting a riot on January 6, 2021, on Capitol Hill. The former president claimed executive privilege regarding his White House records relating to January 6. On January 19, 2022, the US Supreme Court rejected Trump’s request to shield his documents.
On Tuesday, February 1, White House Counsel Dana Remus ordered the National Archives to release former Vice President Mike Pence’s records to the Select Committee. While Trump may invoke executive privilege and deliberative process, he has no legal basis or right to invoke that privilege, Remus wrote. She stated the release of the records is not a violation of executive privilege or deliberative processes regarding the release of former Vice President Pence’s records. Her reason was the sitting president’s order overrides a former president. As such, President Joe Biden determined that executive privilege wasn’t justified or in the nation’s best interest.

On January 6, 2021, Pence wasn’t just the Vice President of the United States. The vice president was also the President of the Senate. As such, he was responsible for ensuring the certification of the 2020 Electoral College results. The Archive officials are likely to release uncontested documents to the committee very soon and Pence’s records will be exposed.
