(TheRedWire.com) – Michael Cohen, former attorney and fixer of former President Donald Trump, who was the star witness in the hush money case against Trump, has stated that he was concerned about the national security risk of Trump being imprisoned. Trump has been found guilty in the case but his sentencing is not until July.
Despite this Cohen stated that he was scared that Trump would leak classified information while in prison because he would attempt to earn bragging rights and points.
In an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Cohen noted that Trump has a long history of sharing classified information, as previous examples include his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his discussions at Mar-a-Lago with an Australian billionaire.
Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts in Manhattan, and found guilty of falsifying business records to conceal alleged affairs during the 2016 presidential campaign. His sentencing is scheduled for July 11, shortly before the Republican National Convention where he is anticipated to be the party’s nominee.
Cohen, who is one of Trump’s most vocal critics, argued that Trump was indifferent to the country’s well-being which could result in him leaking classified information and secrets. He continued by arguing that these things were not normal and that Trump should not be allowed to be declassified especially now that he was a felon. He added that the most concerning thing about him being imprisoned is that he would be willing to trade these secrets for basic things that would benefit him because he does not care about the country, especially if the U.S. turns against him.
