(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday musician and actor Jack Black announced the cancellation of the remaining Tenacious D tour shows, after his partner in the rock duo, Kyle Gass, had joked about the recent assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump during an appearance on an Australian Sunday show.
On Tuesday, Black who has openly supported President Joe Biden’s reelection bid, took to Instagram to state that he had been “blindsided” by what had been said in the show on Sunday. He added that he “would never condone hate speech” or any form of political violence. He added that after a lot of reflection, he has decided that it is inappropriate for them to continue with the Tenacious D tour and noted that they would put on hold all future creative plans. He continued by stating that he is grateful to the fans for showing understanding and support.
Black’s announcement came after a lot of backlash relating to the comment that Gass had made after Black had presented him with a cake on stage. Black had told him to “make a wish” to which Gass had said, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”
The remark had come only one day after Saturday’s assassination attempt during a campaign event in Pennsylvania, where one person had ended up dead, while two others were critically wounded. Trump himself had been left bloodied after a bullet grazed his ear and had been rushed off stage by Secret Service agents.
Following the incident lawmakers from both sides have condemned the political violence and have called for a de-escalation in the political rhetoric.
