(TheRedWire.com) – Following Robert De Niro’s appearance at President Joe Biden’s campaign press conference, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has decided to rescind an award it intended to give the actor.

De Niro appeared at the Biden press conference outside the Manhattan courthouse where former President Donald Trump’s business records trial was being conducted.

According to a spokesperson for the NAB, during the NAB Leadership Foundation’s Service to America Award in Washington, D.C., scheduled for next Tuesday, De Niro was intended to receive an award. However, the organization had pulled back the award following De Niro’s inflammatory statements about Trump.

In its statement, the NAB declared that as a “proudly bipartisan” event that unites “those from across the political spectrum,” and supports free speech, De Niro’s “high-profile” comments and activities would distract from the organization’s philanthropic work.

Therefore, the organization had stated to keep the “focus on service of the award winners,” and it was necessary that the actor no longer attend the event.

The award De Niro was expected to receive is the organization’s highest individual honor given to recognize “charitable work and public service.”

The decision to rescind the award comes after De Niro lashed out at the former President on

The Academy Award-winning actor, also a New York native, claimed the former President wanted to destroy New York City and the United States, describing the former President as a “clown.”

At his appearance, De Niro warned Americans that if Trump received a second term in the Oval Office, they could “kiss these freedoms goodbye,” suggesting that if Trump became President again, there wouldn’t be elections as he wouldn’t want to leave the White House.
