(TheRedWire.com) –  In the recent 6-3 ruling on Murthy v. Missouri, Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett went against the rest of the conservative bench by backing President Biden’s side on the dispute concerning the GOP-led states bringing forward legislation against the federal government’s communication with social media and tech companies over the content being published on the platforms.

In the opinion, which was written by Barrett, the Supreme Court argued that the individual and states do not have a standing to sue the administration over moderation decisions that were communicated with the platforms concerning pandemic misinformation.

The dissenting opinion was filed by Justice Samuel Alito, along with justices Neil Gorsuch and Clarence Thomas.

The parties in the case, which includes the states of Missouri and Louisiana have argued that the Biden administration has attempted to block conservative views from being shared on social media. However, Coney Barrett in her decision pointed out that the plaintiffs lacked both the right and the legal standing to file this lawsuit.

Still, the plaintiffs have maintained that the White House had pushed social media companies to block the commentary and views coming from the conservative side.

The Biden administration has maintained that it should retain the freedom to communicate with social media companies regarding public health, hate speech, election integrity, and other key areas in order to combat false news and information.

In an earlier ruling, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Louisiana had ruled that there had been too much pressure by the government on those companies pushing them to change the content.
