(TheRedWire.com) – On Sunday, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) called former President Donald Trump’s indictment a “political theater” which is distracting from the key issues, while all the attention was placed on Trump’s scheduled arraignment on Tuesday.

Cassidy said on “Fox News Sunday” that “no one should be above the law, but no one should be a target of the law.” He added that this particular case was more about the “target” than it was about the “crime.”

He added that in his opinion what ends up being a “particular problem” is that this situation is “going to lead to all kinds of political theater” which will work as a distraction taking attention away from the key issues that they are dealing with in the country. He added this is not just about one person, but rather it was about the issues that are central to the country’s future, including “Social Security, inflation, and crime on the streets.”

He added this political theater was going to take away from these conversations.

Last week, a Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Trump in connection to the Manhattan district attorney’s probe into the alleged hush money payment made on his behalf to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election in exchange for her silence about their affair. Trump is the first president, sitting or former, to have faced criminal charges.
