(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday, former NBC “Today” show host Katie Couric faced a lot of backlash after showing condescension towards supporters of former President Donald Trump stating that they are ignorant. One critic pointed out that these comments are similar to Hillary Clinton’s comments in 2016 when she referred to them as “deplorable.”
During an interview on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, Couric had stated that Trump’s supporters have been established because of the “anti-intellectualism and -elitism.” He also suggested that the economic transition of the United States from industrial to technological has led to jealousy and other bitter feelings.
Harris Faulkner “Outnumbered” co-host drew a comparison between the comments made by Couric and those that Clinton had made in 2016 when she was running against the former President. The Republican nominee’s supporters had at the time been categorized by Clinton as being a “basket of deplorables.”
At the time Clinton had been heavily criticized for the negative remarks which have also been viewed as one of the turning points for the campaign, and many attribute it as one of the key reasons for Trump’s victory.
Faulkner argued that these people were not only “out-of-touch” but also that Katie Couric had used to be a really good journalist but now it appeared as if she wanted to say people were “basket of deplorables.”
Fox News contributor Dr. Nicole Saphier also called the discussion between Couric and Maher “cringeworthy.” She continued by saying that she was not even sure what Couric was talking about because she could not imagine that people were feeling well with the way the economy was going right now.
