(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday, Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney filed a motion that former President Donald Trump should be held in contempt of court after he allegedly violated the gag order previously imposed by Judge Juan Merchan in the hush money case in New York.

Bragg in his motion has claimed that the three posts that Trump has recently made about his former lawyer Michael Cohen and adult film star Stormy Daniels, who are two of the key witnesses in the criminal court trial, were in violation of the gag order that had been imposed upon him. He is also pushing for Merchan to tell Trump that any additional violations of the gag order would not just result in monetary fines but could also lead to him being incarcerated for a term of up to thirty days.

Last month Merchan opted to impose the gag order on Trump because of his “prior extrajudicial statements.” The judge had argued that Trump’s previous comments had presented a “sufficient risk” to the justice system. As a result, he had ordered that Trump was not allowed to make any public statements about witnesses, court staff, the DA staff, as well as the judge’s family members.

Merchan had also ordered that Trump is not allowed to make any public statements to any chosen or prospective juror. On the first day of the criminal trial and the beginning of the jury selection, Manhattan prosecutors had suggested that Trump should be fined $1,000 for each of the three violations.
